The predecessor of the School of Humanities of Chang'an University was the Political (Chinese) Subject Committee established in 1953. After years of development and changes, in March 2020, the School of Humanities was established on the basis of the former School of Public Administration and Law, School of Literature, Art and Communication.
The college has 3 master's degree authorization points for first-level public administration, first-level discipline of law, and second-level aesthetics, and 4 master's degree authorization points for public management, journalism and communication, international Chinese education, and art. It has 8 undergraduate majors in administration, public service management, law, Han language and literature (Chinese), journalism, advertising, radio and television director, drama, film literature.
The college now has six teaching institutions, including the Department of Public Administration, the Department of Law, the Department of Chinese, the Department of Journalism and Advertising, the Department of Radio, Film and Television, and the Art Education Center; it has more than 10 talent training and scientific research institutions including the MPA Education Center of Chang'an University. The college emphasize the talent training concept of Unity of knowledge and action, and has built virtual reality auxiliary decision-making laboratory, virtual studio, non-linear editing room, recording studio, directing studio, e-government room, photography studio, drawing studio, physical evidence technology room, simulation court, and human resources evaluation, etc., 12 undergraduate professional laboratories. The laboratory construction area is more than 2,000 square meters, and there are more than 600 experimental equipment, which ensure the smooth progress of the college's experimental teaching.
The college has more than 100 faculties. There are 12 professors, 37 associate professors; the whole college has 40 teachers with PhD and More than 40 master tutors. There are also many celebrities like writers, screenwriters, calligraphers, and painters.
The college adheres to the philosophy of “establishing quality academies, developing featured academy, building strong academic departments, pursuing excellence, and connotation development”. With discipline construction as the leader, the college conducts scientific research based on social needs, industry needs and regional needs, and has achieved fruitful scientific research results. In recent years, the college has undertaken more than 70 projects above the provincial and ministerial level, including the National Social Science Fund projects and the key projects of the Ministry of Education's “Tenth Five-Year” Plan; won the Ministry of Education Wonderful Lesson, Shaanxi Province Wonderful Lesson, and above the provincial level Math Teaching Competition Award; published more than 20 academic monographs (textbooks); published more than 230 academic papers, many of which were reprinted and excerpted in full by China Social Science Digest, Xinhua Digest, and Reprinted In Information Center For Social Science Of Renmin University Of China.
The college will use the construction of a new liberal arts as an opportunity to actively explore the development of a distinctive liberal arts major in science and engineering colleges, and strive to build the college into a first-class domestic and internationally renowned high-level college.
